The flag and the coat of arms

The City has its flag and the coat of arms. The coat of arms features a baroque-style shield with its upper field in blue, depicting three separated round silver-white ashlar towers with crenulated rooftops. The towers have their gates closed and windows open. Over the middle tower – which is slightly larger than the other two – flies a white dove carrying an olive branch in its beak. The lower field is in green and features a white silver-river.

The City celebrates its Day on February 1st, which commemorates the event of 1748 when it received its first charter of a free royal town. The charter was issued and signed by Empress Maria Theresia, who granted the City a high degree of autonomy within the Habsburg Empire.
