VIDOVDAN AWARDS PRESENTED TO NOVI SAD'S TOP STUDENTS AT CITY HALL
At a traditional reception held at Novi Sad City Hall the Mayor of Novi Sad Žarko Mićin and the President of the Novi Sad City Assembly Dina Vučinić, presented the annual Vidovdan Awards to outstanding primary and secondary school students who achieved top results at national and international competitions during the 2025/2026 academic year.
A total of 1,176 Vidovdan Awards were presented this year to 905 students. The City of Novi Sad allocated RSD 15,787,000 for the awards as part of its support for academic excellence during the 2025/2026 school year.
Addressing the award recipients, Mayor Mićin emphasised the symbolic significance of Vidovdan, one of the most important dates in Serbian history, noting that it represents values such as faith, freedom, perseverance, responsibility and a commitment to the common good.
- It is no coincidence that we honour our finest students on this day. Their achievements are the result of dedication, hard work and knowledge, and they reflect not only their own success but also the success of their families, teachers, schools and the entire city of Novi Sad. As a city long recognised as a centre of education, culture and learning, we remain committed to investing in education because knowledge is the most valuable resource of any society. Our responsibility is not only to reward excellence but also to ensure that every child has equal opportunities to learn and succeed. We have therefore decided to provide free textbooks for all primary school pupils in Novi Sad. By doing so, we are supporting today's high achievers while creating the conditions for every child to reach their full potential. Previous generations fought for freedom; your generation has the responsibility to fill that freedom with knowledge, creativity and progress - Mayor Mićin said.
The awards recognised 431 first-place, 183 second-place and 183 third-place finishes in individual categories at national competitions and academic contests. A further 367 students received awards for achievements in team events. In addition, 22 special Vidovdan Awards were presented, pursuant to a decision by the Mayor of Novi Sad, to students who achieved exceptional results at international science Olympiads and at European and world-level competitions and championships in sport and the arts for school-age participants that are not organised by the ministries responsible for education or sport.
The awards ceremony was also attended by Milica Vučićević, Member of the Novi Sad City Council responsible for Education, and Sandra Babić, Head of the City Administration for Education.
