NOVI SAD CITY ADMINISTRATION FOR ECONOMY TO SHOWCASE ITSELF AT THE AGRICULTURAL FAIR

City Council member for Economy Mr. Goran Sečujski, MSc, held a press conference to mark the participation of the City Administration for Economy at the upcoming 82nd International Agricultural Fair, which will begin on Saturday, 9th May and last until 15th May.

- The stand of the City Administration will be in the Hall 1A and it will present 6 organic food producers and 6 producers of controlled production from the territory of Novi Sad who are in our program of support of organic production. Two farms already have a certificate of organic production, and the rest are in the process of conversion, which lasts 3 years. This year, the responsible City Administration allocated 6.1 million RSD for organic and controlled production. During the month of May, we will promote the support of organic production in suburban areas as to increase the interest of the relevant producers. This is the second time this year that the producers from our territory take part at the fair exhibition, since the City already financed their participation at the fair in Germany, which took place in February - Mr. Goran Sečujski said.

In addition to Mr. Goran Sečujski, the conference addressees were the President of the "Futog’s cabbage" Association from Futog, Mr. Goran Puača and Mr. Đorđe Mrkić on behalf of the Beekeepers Association "Jovan Živanović". They will exhibit their products with geographical indication at the special stand of the Ministry of Agriculture. The Ministry has tasked the Association "Futog’s cabbage" with the organization of participation of several producers of geographical indication products at this year's Fair.

- This is the first time that the producers of geographical indication products have been organized to showcase their products at the Agricultural Fair and among them, there will also be the representatives of Petrovac and Srem “kulen” flavored sausage producers, cow’s-milk cheese from Homolje producers and others – Mr. Goran Puača said and added that, besides their products, the geographical areas of their origin will also be presented.

According to Mr. Đorđe Mrkić, on behalf of the Beekeepers Association "Jovan Živanović", the Fruška gora lime honey is unique in the world.

- This is a new product, and last year, in cooperation with the Local Economic Development Office of the City of Novi Sad, we participated in the project “Lime Trees and Honey Bees for the Sustainable Development of the Danube micro-region” when the production of lime honey was certified. – Mr. Đorđe Mrkić said.

He also stressed that the Association obtained the status of authorized user of a protected appellation of origin from the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia, emphasizing that the beekeepers’ intention is to make a brand out of the Fruška gora lime honey which will make Novi Sad recognizable.
