MAYOR ŽARKO MIĆIN OUTLINES KEY DECISIONS FOR NOVI SAD AHEAD OF CITY ASSEMBLY SESSION – FROM STRENGTHENING INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION TO SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Ahead of the 20th session of the Novi Sad City Assembly, Mayor of Novi Sad Žarko Mićin highlighted some of the key items on the agenda to be considered by councillors, covering international co-operation, support for young people and families, social protection, safety and security, and the implementation of the city budget.

-The councillors will consider decisions that are important for the further development of Novi Sad and the quality of life of our residents. One of the significant topics is the expansion of international co-operation. The establishment of official co-operation with Surgut in the Russian Federation and Samarkand in Uzbekistan has been proposed. These will be the 28th and 29th cities with which Novi Sad establishes formal inter-city co-operation. With Surgut, we want to develop co-operation in the fields of the economy, education, culture, tourism, information technology and artificial intelligence, while co-operation with Samarkand also represents a continuation of efforts to strengthen relations between Serbia and Uzbekistan. Our aim is for this co-operation to eventually develop into a twinning arrangement between the two cities. Support for young talent also has an important place on the agenda. The City will continue to support the University of Novi Sad Fund for Scholarships for Young Scientists and Artists. The scholarship amounts to 25,000 dinars per month for a period of 12 months, and this year support has been secured for 20 scholarship recipients.The councillors will also consider the Report on the Implementation of the Budget for the first six months of 2026. It shows that the city’s finances are stable, that the budget is being implemented in line with the planned schedule, and that capital investments are being carried out according to plan. A particularly important decision concerns the permanent resolution of the housing situation for more than 20 families in Stanoja Stanojevića Street, including war veterans with disabilities and families of fallen soldiers. After 16 years, their status will finally be resolved. In this regard, during September we also plan to launch a call for applications for 70 flats in Lamella 3 on Momčila Tapavice Street, while construction works on Lamella 4, which will contain the same number of flats, are progressing faster than planned. Another important decision concerns 421 square metres of commercial premises on Mihajla Pupina Boulevard. Following the brutal political misuse of the premises by their previous users, they will become a day-care centre for children and young people with developmental disabilities. The facility will accommodate up to 30 users per day, who will receive professional and continuous support. We also have good news for parents of children with autism, intellectual disabilities and other mental and developmental challenges. We are expanding the group of users who will be able to use parking spaces designated for people with disabilities, in order to make their everyday life in the city easier. We are also working to increase the efficiency of the City Administration for Construction Land and Investments. Following the adoption of the Decision on the City Administrations of the City of Novi Sad, some of its responsibilities will be transferred to other city administrations, such as the City Administration for Communal Affairs, the City Administration for Traffic and Roads, the City Administration for Property Affairs, and others. We are continuing our strong support for firefighters. Since 2012, the City has invested more than 900 million dinars in fire protection, and we will continue purchasing new vehicles and equipment. The new fire station in Futog will be provided to the Emergency Management Sector for use free of charge. We are continuing to implement our plans for our city and its further development, always with the support of the Autonomous Province and the Republic - Mayor Žarko Mićin said.
