MAYOR OF NOVI SAD ŽARKO MIĆIN HELD A MEETING WITH BRITISH AMBASSADOR FERGUSON

The Mayor of Novi Sad, Žarko Mićin, met at the City Hall with His Excellency Edward Ferguson, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Serbia. The Mayor expressed great pleasure at the visit and at the continued strong co-operation with the British Embassy in Belgrade.
He emphasised that the English city of Norwich was one of the first cities with which Novi Sad established a twinning partnership, back in 1989. The co-operation between the twin cities, as Mayor Mićin stated, has been highly successful and continues to this day, primarily thanks to Mr and Mrs Beckley, honorary citizens of Novi Sad. The Amphitheatre of the “Isidor Bajić” School of Music was recently named in honour of the Beckleys.
Ambassador Edward Ferguson underlined the importance of exchanges with Novi Sad in the fields of culture and education. The interlocutors noted that there is significant scope for co-operation between the two countries at the level of local authorities and expressed their willingness and commitment to contribute wholeheartedly to its further development. In particular, following the highly successful British-Serbian Technology Conference held last May at the Science and Technology Park in Novi Sad, a new gathering of British and Serbian technology companies and experts is planned for the spring, in order to continue the exchange of experience and knowledge in the field of information and communication technologies, a sector of great importance.
The officials concluded that the strong bilateral relations between the two countries provide a solid basis for advancing co-operation through various joint projects, particularly in the areas of green energy, digital innovation and infrastructure modernisation.
