MAYOR MIĆIN HOLDS MEETING WITH GERMAN AMBASSADOR ANKE KONRAD IN NOVI SAD

The Mayor of Novi Sad Žarko Mićin held an official meeting with H.E. Anke Konrad, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Serbia, at the City Hall.

Mayor Mićin expressed his sincere appreciation for the Ambassador’s visit and conveyed his particular satisfaction with the highly productive and longstanding cooperation fostered by the City, both with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Belgrade and with the German cities of Dortmund and Ulm. He underscored that Novi Sad has maintained a twinning relationship with Dortmund since 1982, while a formal Cooperation Agreement with the City of Ulm was concluded in 2017. Both parties welcomed the continuity and quality of cooperation between Novi Sad and its German partner cities, especially in the fields of culture, sport and education.

The interlocutors further concurred that public spaces dedicated to these partnerships play a significant role in reinforcing mutual ties, serving as enduring symbols of friendship and twinning—namely Novi Sad Square in Dortmund and, reciprocally, Dortmund Square in Novi Sad. In addition, a street in Veternik has been named in honour of Hannelore Lamche, an honorary citizen of Novi Sad from Dortmund.

Ambassador Konrad expressed her gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to her and reaffirmed her readiness to support the strengthening of existing ties between Novi Sad and German cities, as well as the establishment of new partnerships. She also highlighted the strong economic cooperation reflected in the successful operations of numerous German companies in Novi Sad, noting that their sustained presence has undoubtedly encouraged further investment from international partners seeking to develop production capacities in the city.

The meeting concluded with a shared assessment that the existing high level of cooperation provides a solid foundation for its further advancement, particularly in light of the broad spectrum of opportunities for deepening collaboration across various sectors.
