Construction of a cycle path on the Novi Sad – Rumenka – Irmovo – Kisač – Čenej route Section 1: Novi Sad – bridge over the DTD canal towards Irmovo

Works on the construction of the first section of the cycle path, covering the stretch from Novi Sad to Rumenka (up to the bridge over the DTD canal towards Irmovo), have been completed. The cycling network of Novi Sad has been extended by an additional 9.6 km.
The total value of the works amounted to approximately 226 million dinars.
This investment is of great importance for the City of Novi Sad, as it represents a bypass of the international EuroVelo 6 route. Upon full completion in the coming period, Novi Sad will have a new cycle path to Čenej with a total length of 20.2 km.
EuroVelo is a cycling network consisting of 15 long-distance routes that span and connect the entire European continent. On the section between Novi Sad and Bački Petrovac, these cycle paths form part of the National Cycle Route, which also serves as a planned bypass of EuroVelo 6. The EuroVelo 6 route runs from France to Romania, ending at the Black Sea, with a total length of approximately 3,700 km. In Serbia, the route follows the course of the Danube and is therefore also known as the “Danube Cycle Route”.
The overall network of cycle paths connecting settlements within the territory of the City of Novi Sad, as a bypass of EuroVelo 6, will enable international cycle tourists to access numerous attractions both within the city and in its suburban areas. By promoting and creating conditions for the development of cycle tourism, facilitating faster and easier movement, and supporting sport and eco-tourism, the project enhances the attractiveness and competitiveness of the tourism offer and contributes to the overall economic development of the region.
Phase 2: Novi Sad – Rumenka – Kisač – Čenej – Irmovo
The second phase, covering the section from the DTD canal via Irmovo and Kisač to Čenej, approximately 10.6 km in length, will be financed through the LIID project.
The cycle path will be equipped with modern LED lighting.
The total project value is 222,351,725.36 dinars (excluding VAT).
Preparation of the tender documentation is currently underway in order to launch the public procurement procedure, in line with LIID project requirements (regarding the structure of the draft contract, obligations of the future contractor, etc.).
Upon completion of the project, the City of Novi Sad will have a continuous cycle route to Čenej with a total length of 20.2 km.
