CITY OF NOVI SAD - CITY OF ATHLETICS

Member of the City Council in charge of Youth and Sports Predrag Svilar and Head of the Mayor of Novi Sad Office Aleksandar Petrović received in the City Hall the pioneers of the Athletic Club "Vojvodina", who on the occasion of the Sports Athletic Games held Dortmund won six gold, nine silver and 13 bronze medals, as well as the third place in the team competition. The children from the AC "Vojvodina" went a week ago to the Sports Athletic Games in Dortmund, which is one of the finest examples of the international cooperation between the twin cities of Novi Sad and Dortmund.

- The results of our athletes in this competition are important, not only in sporting terms, or due to the impressive number of medals which children won. We are, as the City, mainly proud of these young athletes because of their attitude, their behavior and the way they represented Novi Sad and Serbia as their best ambassadors. These are more than enough reasons to be proud of them and to help them in future. It was only yesterday when Ivana Španović also attended the reception in the City Hall as the best athlete of our City, and it is already today that we are looking at the medals from the same Club, in the same sport, at the same place. This is what really confirms that the City of Novi Sad has become the City of athletics - Predrag Svilar said and wished the athletes that they keep investing in themselves as much as possible and to realize their aspirations and become great champions in the future.

Head of the Mayor’s Office Aleksandar Petrović congratulated the athletes, said that winning of as many as 28 medals in two competition days is very important, especially if we speak in terms of the competition with powerful countries not only in sports terms, but also in economic terms, such as Germany, Hungary, Sweden, the Netherlands and Poland.

Within the Sports Athletics Games, for the past 20 years Dortmund has also been hosting the Tournament of Nine Cities and the German Open Championship. This year 35 children of 11, 13 and 15  age groups from the Athletic Club "Vojvodina" participated in these competitions and they brought 28 medals to Novi Sad.
