ART EXHIBITION IN CELEBRATION OF 60 YEARS OF THE CITY LIBRARY CHILDREN’S DEPARTMENT

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the City Library Children’s Department in Novi Sad, the cultural institution organized an art exhibition featuring the works of participants in the contest "A Library Full of Books, Letters and Imagination". The exhibition was opened by the member of the City Council in charge of culture Mr. Vanja Vučenović.

- The Novi Sad City Library, the oldest cultural institution founded by the City, this year celebrates 170 years from its establishment and six decades from the formation of the Children’s Department. By celebrating these significant anniversaries, we are stressing the importance of the City Library’s cultural mission, as well as expressing our readiness to support it and further enhance it, for additional development of its future activities – said Vanja Vučenović, adding that the City will, after the amendment to the budget in June, allocate funds for the procurement of new books for the City Library.

Over 300 works of art applied for the contest of the Novi Sad City Library and the Vojvodina Children and Youth Visual Art Training Center. Children from 20 elementary schools from Novi Sad, Belgrade, Knjaževac, Kuršumlija, Kisač, Vršac, Zmajevo, Sremska Kamenica, Bač and Begeč creatively expressed their impression about the library in their artworks, especially their impression about the department dedicated to children, while they also contributed with their vision of the future children’s library. The jury selected 71 works for the exhibition and awarded one first prize, two second prizes and three third prizes, as well as one special award of the Artwork Training Center. Antonina Obradović, student of the Stevan Sinđelić Elementary School from Belgrade, received the prize for the best artwork.
