Youth Theatre was established in 1931 as a Puppet Theatre. It aroused from the Puppeteers Section of Sports and Recreational Centre “Sokolski Dom” which was established one year before. The first play that was put on was The Prince in Underground. After WWII it changed its name into Vojvodina Puppet Theatre. In 1952 it changed its name again into the City Puppet Theatre. During ‘60s, new types of puppets, besides marionettes, were introduced, such as guignol and javajka. Then, in 1968, the first “live” play was put on. Ever since theatre has bore its contemporary name. The plays have been performed in Serbian, Hungarian, Slovakian, Ruthenian and Albanian.
